Laura Orndorff Houseman

Laura Orndorff Houseman, 80, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, August 17,2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Roanoke on August 20, 1927, and was predeceased by her parents, Jacob Martin and Elizabeth Foster Orndorff; and her brother, Jacob M. Orndorff Jr. Laura was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School and attended Longwood College. She was an avid bridge player and loved spending time with her family and many close friends. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 54 years, James E. Houseman; daughters, Betsy Stone and husband, Jeff, of Salem, and Carolyn Divers and husband, Jay, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Jennifer Stone Reasor and husband, Cline, of Norfolk, Laura Elizabeth Stone, of Salem, and Jayson Divers and Lindsay Divers, of Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Rufus Spiers; and brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Betty Orndorff, of Christiansburg. The funeral service will be held noon on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at Christ Episcopal Church. The Rev. Deborah Hunley will officiate. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the Parish Hall. Instead of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 1101 Franklin Road, Roanoke, Va. 24016. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Chad DeMott, Dr. Billups at Brambleton Family Physicians, and Dr. Ward and the supportive staff of Pheasant Ridge Nursing Home for the excellent care Laura received.
