To the Hungate family,
Thoughts and prayers from Concord, NC. My sister Crystal Williams (Thompson) informed me today about Rev. Bill. Sorry to hear the news. Many times, Mom and Dad told me how Mr. Hungate came up to see me and sat with Mom\Dad when I was born premature in '79. He spent weeks up in that hospital waiting, talking, and just being a good minister\friend. Over the years, I know he would ask Mom how I was doing and get updates. I have been lucky over the years to have the right ministers at the right time in my life. From Rev. Hungate when I was born to KB when I was in the youth group @ VBC. So today, I say thank you to his family for his time and commitment to the ministry, to Vinton Baptist, and to me and my family as I was born. Please let me or my family (@VBC - Crystal Williams\Carolyn Thompson) know if there is anything we can do.
Thanks again,
JT

Helen and family,
Mr Hungate was a very special man to me. He always spoke to me in church and gave me that sweet smile. He was always appreciative of anything you did for him. I thank God for putting him in my pathway of life and the memories I have of him. I hope his memories will comfort you every day and keep you wrapped in his love.

Dear Helen and family,
As I grew up, Helen and Elbert (Bill?) were part of the scenery at church and home. You guys remained close to my folks over the years and we all value that friendship. I fondly recall your last trip to Tampa where Jeremy met people who knew his grandparents when they were young.
What stories, memories, and laughs. Our loss is heaven's gain, but it is always harder on those left behind. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love, Vickie for Madeline and Red St.Clair

Bill was our Minister of Youth and Education at Vinton Baptist in the sixties specifically. He was gentle, calm, and understanding, and had tremendous rapport with the youth and was respected by us then-young people. Bill always remembered me over the years, and I have always held him in highest regard. Bill and Helen blessed me in their quiet and thoughtful ways.

What a great and wonderful man! We will miss him dearly, but we are so thankful for having him in our lives. I still have some of the thoughtful & encouraging cards he wrote me through college in his beautiful handwriting. Mr. Bill baptized me, performed my mother's funeral service, and officiated my wedding ceremony. He will always hold a dear place in my heart. Mrs. Helen, our condolences to you, you are such a dear. May the peace that passes understanding be yours.
