John Vaughn Obituary

John William Vaughn, Jr., 95, of Roanoke, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008. He was born August 10, 1913. He was the beloved husband of 69 years to the late Addie Nunley Vaughn. Mr. Vaughn retired as the Director of Purchasing for Double Envelope Corporation after a record 54 years of outstanding service. He was a longtime member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Optimist Club of Roanoke. He was a member of Hidden Valley Country Club, where he had been an avid golfer for many years. Mr. Vaughn was very much loved by his family, his friends and his neighbors. He was a son of the late John William and Etta Neal Vaughn. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Vaughn and Tom Vaughn and two sisters, Bessie McKinney and Arlena Jones. He is survived by his daughter, Alma Scott Townsend; and granddaughters Kay Anne Barefoot and husband, Dan, Karen Townsend Hickey and husband, Sanders; grandson, John Edward Townsend and wife, Lisa; great-granddaughters, Kristie Barefoot Ballard and Ashley Hickey Young; great-grandson, Collin Townsend Hickey; great-great-grandson, Brandon James Young; a sister, Ruth Vaughn Clodfelter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are special friends, Kimberly Hairston and Jane Rose. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2008 at Oakey's South Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church with the Rev. James D. Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Arrangement by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
