Elizabeth Anne Matthews, 79, of Galax, Va., passed away Friday, August 22, 2008, in Twin County Regional Hospital. Miss Matthews was born in Carroll County, Va., on May 8, 1929, to Thomas Jefferson and Zelle Elizabeth Thomas Matthews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jane D'armi; and brothers ,Bill Matthews, Tommy Matthews and Bob Matthews. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Bobby Thomason, of Galax, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, John and Freida Matthews, of North Wilksboro, N.C.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Matthews, of Chesapeake, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2008, in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. John Matthews and the Rev. Walt Simmerman officiating. Burial will follow in Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 p.m. until service time at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
