Hilton was one of my best friends. I worked with him for 9 years on the 11-7 shift at Community Hospital. We often got into some "real spots", but Hilton was always there and knew what to do.
There was a 20 year age difference between us, but we never had a cross word with each other.
We had a lot of fun when he would come to my house. We would have a few people over to play cards. My brother-in-law always had a real struggle beating Hilton in chess.
I retired in 2004 and I missed Hilton so much because he had been such a good friend. Pam and I would always ask Hilton "Where are you going to take us out to eat this time?" He would always want to go to Red Lobster.
When I bought a dog, I remember him asking me "Why did you get that 'ole' dog(Conrad)?" and I told him that he needed to get him one as they were so much company. As I visited with Mrs. Hicks, I found out that he had a dog! She is adorable and I am glad that he had some time with her.
Hilton and I had a wonderul working relationship and I loved him like a son. Tears are flowing as I write this note.
Hilton always talked about how much he loved the holidays because he would get to be with his family. He would look forward to being with the kids and to the home cooking.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please know that Hilton will remain in our hearts - he was a dear friend.

I was so saddened to hear the news of Hilton's passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and to all of the people who had the pleasure of working with Hilton. I have so many wonderful memories that come to mind and make me smile now and I'm sure, many years to come. Hilton had such a warm, wonderful smile that was always accompanied by a joke or two. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone and everyone in need. More than anything, I will remember Hilton as having one of the biggest hearts of anybody I've met. You will be missed Hilton, I will never forget the special times we shared. I'm so glad we were able to see each other before I moved to Northern Virginia. I'm sure you have the Angels laughing already.

I will miss Hilton and never forget him. Connie, Hilton, and I would have many laughs and good stories to share on night shift at CRCH ER. Hilton was always like family to me; and going to family picnics and to the lake with Jason & Co. was always a blast. He will always be alive in spirit. Hilton was a very influential part of his community and truly an inspirational friend. I met him 10 years ago and to this day I tell stories about him like it was yesterday. Love you Hilton.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Reaves death. I apologize for not attending the service as I just found out moments ago. I knew Reaves when I was a little girl. I am Lynn Robertson's niece. During summers and Christmas while visiting my grandparents I was relentlessly picked on by those two. Reaves was a fun character. I just remember how inseparable those boys were in their youth and also into their adulthood. True Friends. I mourn for your loss and share your sorrow. Best Wishes.

We are so sorry to learn of the passing of Reeves. I was a classmates of his in the radiation sciences program at VCU. He kept me and the class in stitches with his jokes and pleasant personality.
On behalf of the VCU Department of Radiation Sciences we are sorry for the loss of your son, uncle, brother, and one of our alums.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Hilton's passing. I only knew him a very short time in xray school about eleven years ago. He used to go into the dark room a back way and hide there waiting to jump out to scare the heck out of you. Then he would exit the darkroom laughing, leaving you there to collect yourself. It was funny when he got other people, but when he got me it wasn't funny until after the fact.
I know it must have been such a shock to lose such a loved individual. He will remain forever in your hearts as long as you share stories about him.
God has taken a true angel up to heaven with him. My heart goes out to his family friends and co-workers that are grieving at this time of sorrow. God bless.

Hilton was the kindest and happiest person I have ever met. When I started at CRCH he was there to help anytime he was working. When I would get called in he was always there to help. That smile at 3 AM was always there. Even if you were not happy to be up at 3- he was alway there to lift your spirits. I will miss him very much.

Just last week we celebrated Hilton's 44th B-day at the Hospital while working 3rd shift. He said "all this for me? I'm nobody special". The mass number of people at his wake this evening proves that statement otherwise. I met Hilton about 5 years ago when I finished X-ray school and took a weekend position at Community Hospital. I'll never forget how he would never let me do a patient alone, he was so helpful and such a hard worker. He's personality was priceless, always playing jokes and keeping everyone laughing with his wild stories. But, even with his crazy side Hilton had a heart of gold. Not many people know this, but when I bought my 1st home my loan fell through at the last minute and Hilton loaned me the money for the down payment. That's not an act from "nobody special".... The last time I saw Hilton was last Friday morning at the Hospital, he was helping an elderly man to the bathroom to change his colostomy bag ( a duty outside his job discription) before his CT procedure. I remember thinking, "what a great tech, going the extra mile to help the patient". That's how I will remember Hilton, always helping out how he could, no matter how great or small the task. It's sereal that he is gone. I keep looking around corners at work, thinking I will see him in those green scrubs, hear those big loud white tennis shoes, wearing that smile from ear to ear. What a tremendous loss from such a senseless act. He will be missed greatly.

Hilton was a wonderful person so full of energy and life. I worked with him in the ER at CRCH on night shift for years. He always had a smile on his face or was always playing jokes on us. I remember the days he, (Shelby woo) and I used to hang out. He used to sit at the ER desk and quiz us for our nursing school exams. I remember he loved motorcycles and motorcross. I was deeply saddened to hear the news of his passing. It is such a great loss and my heart goes out to his family. To his family you will be in my thoughts and prayers. May he ride in peace!!

We are so deeply sorry and saddened. Your son, brother, uncle, and friend was such an incredible person. Hilton was truly one of a kind. His smile, his laughter, especially when my daughter was vomiting stawberry yoohoo on the side of the road on the way out to Bret's farm. (who would have thought) the road went on forever. As did the laughter and the stories of this unforgettable day. Bringing the Copper Head snake was a little much to show to a man who had just turned forty. Bret will miss seeing Hilton at work, his laughter, misplacing xrays and having to look for them, most of all Hilton being there to help others. We hope that you will find comfort and peace in the long days ahead and know that we share your loss and sadness.

When Hilton came back to Roanoke I think that was about 14 years ago we would hang out alot and make fish taco's. He was a great listener and friend. We continued to work together for many years after that and always remained friends. I think that he was the funniest person and so kind. I feel very sad about his untimely death. I will always remember you Hilton...Gina from the ER at CRCH

I was deeply saddened to hear today of Hilton's passing. I will always remember HIlton as a very bright and funny guy. I was very fortunate to work with Hilton at CHRV for six years. He was very helpful to me when I had just graduated VWCC and became a x-ray technologist. I will never forget his jokes or his pranks, especially when he would play a prank on our co-worker Connie(like hiding in the darkroom and scaring her when she came in to develop a film). You could always tell which seat at the front desk was Hilton's, because the seat was always down really low. He was very passionate about his snakes and his motorcycles. Hilton will be greatly missed! My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. I know he loved you all very much! May you all know God's peace and love during this time!

"God is certainly too kind to ever hurt you, too wise to ever make a mistake..." I read this in a book trying to find something to say to help you find comfort at such a dark time in your family's life. At first, I thought this is hogwash, but with further thought, decided it was right for a time like this. Hylton was a co-worker of mine. Our paths crossed regularly yet I knew not much about him. He was always very helpful, always with a ready smile. I knew when I arrived at CT with a patient and saw him, the trip would go well. I shall miss that smile and the good natured helpfulness he always had. Hylton, I wish I had gotten to know you better, but you still made a mark on my life. Keep them laughing in heaven and tell my mom, hey!!

To all of Hilton's family; know that you are all in my prayers and may God Bless you and guide you through this tragic event. I always thought a lot of Hilton(although we had our differences), he was just three days older than I and I loved teasing him of that. He was always fun to work with and made me smile. How could he not?, look at the lives he has touched. I have always believed; that it is not how long we live that matters, it is how many lives we touch along the way. He will be sadly missed.

I knew Reaves through my Uncle Lynn. I remember some heated ping-pong matches in our basement between those two! Their friendship was a good example for a kid like me to see: they really stuck together through a lot. I also remember Reaves taking time to play Star Wars with a kid he could have told to "buzz off". Thanks for that, Reaves. I won't forget it.

Dear Mrs. Hicks, Family and Dear Freinds:
As I read the wonderful words written about Hilton in this guest book, it is apparent that he touched many hearts.
I cannot imagine the depth of your sorrow and I wish I had words to comfort you in your grief, but I know there are none that will take away the pain you are feeling now.
I will always remember Hilton’s visit to my science class last summer. He brought several reptiles and a tree frog. As he was telling the children about the frog, it escaped his grip and jumped into the air and landed on a little girl’s leg. The children squealed with excitement. When I looked at Hilton, he was calm and he had the biggest smile imaginable. He was in his element!
Oh, how he will be missed!
Hilton will live in our hearts forever.
With sympathy,
Lisa Bess

When I first met Reaves in 1971 in the first grade I always knew he was a little bit different from everyone else in that we liked the same things and he always made me laugh and told jokes and kept people laughing. He always had a different way at looking at things and gave great advice on matters. We had the best childhood growing up going to school together rideing bikes, snake hunting, going on trips, playing pool, fooseball, volleyball, tennis, pingpong, chess and the list just keeps going. He was always a joy to play against because he was so competetive and enjoyed the sport. He was always the most helpful and careing person in that he always was willing to lend a hand for any job that needed to be done. Life without him will never be the same and he will be missed like he was my brother. Actually in my heart he was my family and always will be. I will miss seeing him at work and here helping me with the reptiles and his competitiveness in playing games. I love you my friend and you will greatly be missed by everyone in my family and our thoughts and prayers go out to his and we love you all.

I have known Reaves my entire life through my Uncle Lynn. They were the best of friends. When I think of Reaves all I can think of are all the jokes, and laughter, and fun times everyone had when he was around. All of the "Friday nights" over the years, the super bowls, and snake shows. So many memories I have of Reaves and all of them include a smile. He was an amazing person and I know he will be missed dearly.

We want to extend the deepest sympathy to Reeve's entire family.
You could only say nice things about
him, for he was one exceptional human being. He was truly wonder-ful with my grandchildren, when visited SML at Uncle Johnny's place
there. He would play with them in the water, water sports, or maybe
just encourage them to jump-off the
very top of the deck into the water!
We all loved when he would visit, during our week vacation at the lake. Our daughter Carlene, and our
grandkids, Brett, Lori, and Brooke will really miss him when we visit the
lake, for that pleasant, most fun person will not be there for them!!!
Bruce and I will miss him too.
