Charles Hutto Obituary

Col. Charles Lee Hutto (Ret.) passed away August 27, 2008, at his home in Moneta, Va. Born August 4, 1920, in Orangeburg, S.C., he served in the Army from 1944 to 1974, serving in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War before retiring to Smith Mountain Lake, Va., in 1974. He was the Army Assistant for Transportation and Traffic Management, as well as the Assistant Secretary of the Army, with a concentration in installations and logistics. Col. Hutto was a member of the Franklin County Planning Commission. He is survived by his loving wife, Loulie Carbine; two sisters, Billye Mann and Bobby Price; two daughters, Charlotte (Brigham) Shuler and Terry Hutto; one son, Charles Lee Jr. (Sylvia); five grandchildren, Mark Shuler (deceased), Beth (Bruce) Smith, Gregory (Lori) Phillips, Lindsay (Kevin) Hurt and Benjamin Hutto; and three greatgrandchildren, Loulie Smith, Brigham Shuler and Chalis Phillips. A celebration of life ceremony will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Richardson Funeral Home, 1936 Senator Gasque Road, Marion, S.C. 29571. A military service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, S.C. Donations can be sent to the Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, 180 Floyd Avenue, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151. Flower arrangements can be sent to Richardson Funeral Home. Local arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount, Va.
