Annie Mae Phillips Johnson

Annie Mae Phillips Johnson, 95, of Bedford, died Thursday, August 28, 2008. She was born April 16, 1913, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late James Owen Phillips and Ossie Ruff Phillips. She was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church. Annie enjoyed quilting, cooking and gardening. In addition to her parents, Annie was preceded in death by her husband, Otho Jasper Johnson; a son, James William Johnson; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Johnson; six brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by three children, Jasper Johnson and his wife, Thelma, of Bedford, Roy Johnson and his wife, Doris, of Rocky Mount ,and Eleanor Bishop and her husband, Eddie, of Roanoke; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Johnson of California; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Phillips, of Thaxton; 10 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; five greatgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Campbell Rest Home and Bedford Hospice for their special care for Annie as well as the family. A celebration of Annie's life will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2008, in the Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clayton C. Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
