Kenneth Simmons Obituary
Kenneth Lee Simmons, 76, of 2560 Cowpasture River Highway, Millboro, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, at his home. He was born at Nimrod Hall in Bath County, Virginia on August 17, 1932, a son of the late Robert Lee and Gwendolyn Matheny Simmons. He was a retired Brakeman and Conductor with CSX Transportation for 27 years, received his G.E.D. from Millboro High School. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955 and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a member of the Windy Cove Presbyterian Church in Millboro Springs and became a member of the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge # 166 A.F. & A.M. in 2002. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Faye McCoy Simmons, who he married on January 26, 1957; only son, Duane "Dewey" Simmons and special friend, Bob Boyett, of Atlanta, Georgia; four daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Goings and Dr. Ronald Goings, of Clifton Forge, Cindy and Kelly Cosby, of Richmond, Cristy and John Bounds II, of Centreville, Va. and Patti and Shawn Robertson, of Millboro. Jandaddy will live on the hearts and soul of his 13 grandchildren, Rachel Goings and fiancé, Jamie Talbot, of Roanoke, Joseph Goings, of the University of Virginia, Samuel Goings, of Virginia Tech, Peter Goings, of the University of Iowa, Kyle Cosby, of Virginia Tech, Clay Cosby, of Virginia Tech, Katie Cosby, of Radford University, Laura Bounds and John Bounds III, of Centreville, Va., Michael Simmons, Cheyenne Robertson, Ryan Robertson and Taylor Robertson, all of Millboro; loving sisters, Eleanor Woods and husband, James, of Wilmington, N.C. and Louise Fultz, of Verona, Va.; loving brothers, Keith Simmons and wife, Ann, of Clifton Forge; Dwight Simmons and wife, Carol, of Seattle, Washington, George Simmons and wife, Sue, of Stephen City; special nephew, Keith Simmons Jr., Clifton Forge; sisters-in-law, Velma Simmons, of Aldie, and Ginger Simmons, of Arlington; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mae Tucker; brothers, Robert "Bob" Simmons and Thomas St.Clair " Tommy" Simmons; and by two brothers-in-law, Raymond "Peanut" Tucker and George Fultz. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge with the Rev. Rob Sherrard officiating. Interment will follow in the Windy Cove Cemetery, Millboro Springs. Active pallbearers will be the grandsons. Masonic Rites will be presented by Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge # 166 A.F. & A.M. at 6 p.m. on Monday evening at Nicely Funeral Home followed by visitation until 8 p.m. Friends may call anytime at the residence.
