Amos Royall Jr.

Amos Royall Jr., 78, of 325 East Reid Street, Candor, N.C., died Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at his residence. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2008, at Southside Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Michael Lynn and Dr. Bruce Dickerson officiating. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2008, at Montvale Baptist Cemetery in Montvale, Va. Mr. Royall was born on June 1, 1930, in Alma, Ga., to the late Amos and Mary Lambert Royal. He was a retired truck driver with Chevron Oil with 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rumel Collins Royall; and son-in-law, Bill Land. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Lamonds Royall, of the home; daughters, Carol Royal Land, of Roanoke, Va., Catherine Royall Settle and husband, Ron, of Montvale, Va., and Tracy Royal Waller and husband, Jackie, of Montvale, Va.; son, Roger Royal and wife, Linda, of Vinton, Va.; stepdaughter, Sharon Crook, and husband, Paul, of Biscoe; stepsons, James Hicks, of Troy, Joe Hicks and wife, Tee, of Branford, Fla., and John Hicks, of Amelia Island, Fla.; sisters, Eleanor Bowman, of Asheboro, Betty Johnson, of Biscoe, and Barbara Jean Reeder, of Albemarle; grandchildren, Brandy Land Herndon, Hillary Van Name, Michelle and Bo Royal, Derek Binns and Samantha Settle, Adriane and Sydney Bryant, Johnathan Crook, Joseph Hicks and Andi Hicks; and great-grandchildren, Asa and Abby Herndon, Hugh Van Name, Sierra and Helen Taylor Cox, and Levi and Gavin Crook. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at Phillips Funeral Home in Star, N.C., and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008, at Oakey's Funeral Service & Crematory, East Chapel, in Roanoke, Va.
