James Gentry Obituary

Mr. James Rodney Gentry, 64, of Glade Spring, Va., passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at his home where he was surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Edith Morefield Gentry; and a nephew, Kevin Carter. He was a Brick Mason by trade and Jim's greatest pastime was fishing the local lakes with a few of his close friends. Jim was a life-time member of the Glade Spring Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He was a Veteran and served in the United States Navy. He was an active member of the Old Glade Spring Presbyterian Men's Sunday School Class. Jim worked as a Brick Mason and helped erect the Veteran's Memorial in Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Miller Gentry, of Glade Spring, Va.; three fine sons, Keith and wife, Tina Gentry, Zackary Gentry and Seth Gentry, all of the Glade Spring area; two beloved granddaughters, Shannon Le Onn and Kristin Leigh Gentry; one sister, Nancy Carter and husband, Dale, of Meadowview, Va.; one brother, Joe Gentry and wife, Carol, of Roanoke, Va.; three nieces, Heather Lawrence and husband, Chris, and Lori and Megan Carter; one nephew, Jay Gentry and wife, Ashley; Jim entrusted the care of his family to his wife's beloved uncle, John T. Worley. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous close friends; and one special young man, Jacob Arnold. Graveside services for Mr. James R. Gentry will be conducted 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at the Graveside in the Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Bird and Dr. Robert Lominack officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home and friends are asked to meet at the Cemetery by 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Online condolences can be submitted to the family at www.frostfuneralhome.com. The family would like to thank all the individual friends who gave donations toward Jim's care and for the love that was shown to the family. A special thank you to the Pastor and members of the Old Glade Presbyterian Church for the love that was shown to Jim and his family. The family welcomed friends and relatives into the home for visitation prior to Jim's passing, the friends will never be forgotten and thank you for coming by. God Bless you, one and all! May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. What a friend he was to me in high school! He was a special person. He loved everybody and everyone who knew him loved him. Even though I haven't seen him in a long time I have never forgotten him and never will he was such a good friend. I just found out about his passing today 9-15-2008. I am so sorry for your loss.
