Ruth Price Obituary

Ruth Burdette Price, 67, of "Serenity Place" 301 Snake Run Road, Covington, Va., departed this earth for eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 6, 2008, following a long and courageous battle with COPD, emphysema and related illness. She was a member of Shepherds Chapel Church, Gravette, Ark. Ruth was born in Monroe County, W.Va., on March 18, 1941. She was preceded in departing this earth by her parents, Andrew Nelson "Birdie" and Eva Porterfield Burdette; a grandson, Denis John O'Conner; three sisters, Dreama Lee Burdette, Betty Jo Burdette and Kathryn Burdette Myers; and her special friend and faithful companion, "Sparky." She was beloved wife, mother, "Nana," friend and hero to her family. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Dave Price, of Covington; three daughters, Melinda Kathryn Lee and her husband, Bob, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., Michele Lynette Wilson, of Port Orange, Fla., and Marie Ansonja Lee and her husband, Ray, of Roanoke; one son, David Preston Price Jr., of Portland, Ore.; six beloved grandchildren, T.J. Ramos, Sean O'Connor, Kristin O'Conner, Ryan Lee, Rayanne Lee J.P. Wilson and Sydney Lee; very special friends, Alice and Larry Fisher, of Kinsley, Kan., and Ella and Frank Haynes, of Covington. Ruth devoted her life caring for others and was an honor graduate of the Florida College of Medical Assistants as a Registered Medical Assistant. She worked at medical clinics and private physician offices in Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., and at Alleghany Regional Hospital's operating room. She served her country proudly as a devoted career Navy spouse raising a family of four children during Dave's many extended tours of duty at sea and during overseas and stateside deployments. She enjoyed being at peace with nature, tending to her flowers, birds, wildlife, decorating for Christmas and seasonal holidays. She loved spending quite time at water falls, creek and pond at "Serenity Place" and taking walks with her friend and faithful companion "Sparky." In keeping with her wishes, Ruth's body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2008, at the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Edith Snedegar officiating. The family will receive their friends following the memorial service and anytime at "Serenity Place" 301 Snake Run Road. The interment will be at "Serenity Place" at a later date. The family suggests that memorial donations in Ruth's name may be made to Dunlap Fire and Rescue Squad, 4115 Midland Trail Road, Covington, Va. 24426 or to the Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteer Fund, P.O. Dave and family:
The loss of a loved one is God's way of showing us that he exists and will always be there for us to lean upon. You have lost a beautiful wife, mother and friend. Lean close upon the Lord he will carry you through. The tears will fall, the nights will be long but God is ALIVE and one day he will bring you home to be with her.
Let me know if I can do anything for you.
