Shirley Bradford Obituary

On September 5, 2008, beloved mother and grandmother "Nana", Shirley A. Bradford, passed peacefully on to heaven surrounded by family and friends. Shirley was a faithful employee of Richfield Recovery and Care Center for over 48 years. She began employment when it was the Mercy House and had the honor of working with original founder, Jane Morgan Harris. Shirley also met the love her life, Frazier O. Bradford, while working at Richfield. They married and had three children, William L. Bradford, of Salem, Janie Bradford Thompson-Christian and spouse, Dewey Christian, of Elliston, and Patricia B. Long of Elliston. She leaves behind her grandchildren to cherish her memory, William J. Bradford, of Bedford (grandson) and Darean L. Thompson, Teresa and Sadie Long (granddaughters), of Elliston. She also leaves behind people she adopted into her family and heart, Jody M. Fowler, of Elliston, Gordon C. Miller, of Portland, Oregon, Nicole Smith, of Salem and her dearest friends, Claudette and Paul Hackett, of Shawsville. Shirley was a loving, warm and giving person who will be deeply missed and never forgotten. She has now gone to heaven to join her beloved husband, Frazier, were their love will last forever. Visitation will be held at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, Va., September 7, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the graveside in Sherwood Memorial Park at 2 p.m. on September 8, 2008, with Pastor Wayne Powell of the Elliston Church of God to perform services.

I have missed Shirley since she left Richfield. It doesn't seem right to see someone else with the snack cart. She was one of my favorite people at Richfield and I loved her. She always loved to pick. I'm happy for her that she is with Frasier now and out of her pain. I would have loved to see the look on her face when she seen him. She had missed him so bad. I cann't say that I know the pain ya'll are going through but I'm so sorry that it is there and I am remembering ya'll in my thoughts and prayers.

Janie and Trish- I am so sorry to hear about your mom passing away. I'm sure your dad was delighted to see her though. Both you ladies are strong and she really loved you and your families. Just remember God is always there and knows your heart.

Janie & family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I loved Shirley and she will be missed. I worked with her when Richfield had the cottages and you were a little girl. I am also Vandy's daughter-in-law (not sure if you remember me or not). You will be in my prayers and thoughts.
