Frederick Price Obituary

Frederick Word Price, of Roanoke, died Monday, September 8, 2008, at the age of 85. He was a 1940 graduate of Jefferson High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from the Norfolk Southern Corporation with 43 years of service, and was a long time member of Villa Heights Baptist Church. Mr. Price was preceded in death by his parents, James Edgar Price and Gertie Word Price; his brothers, James E. Price Jr., Wilson Price and the Rev. Jack Price; and his sister, Margaret Price. He was also preceded in death by his son, James E. (Jimmy) Price. Mr. Price is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsa O. (Betty) Price; his sons, Fred Price Jr., Steve Price and wife, Adrienne Price, granddaughter, Allyson Leftwich and husband, Dennis Leftwich, his greatgranddaughters, Morgan and Brooke Leftwich, of Roanoke; and a stepgrandson, Jordan F. Sherwood, of Tempe, Ariz. He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte Davidson, of Lutz, Fla.; and a brother, Lawrence Price, of Merritt Island, Fla. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2008, in Fair View Cemetery. The Rev. Jake Huffman will officiate. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel on Thursday, September 11, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Fred's memory be made to the building fund at Villa Heights Baptist Church, 4080 Challenger Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24012 or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131 .
