Edward Baker Obituary

Edward Lee Baker, 70, of Rocky Mount, Va., and formerly of Raysal, W.Va., went to be with his Savior on Monday, September 8, 2008. There to greet him were his parents, Robert Lee and Maude Baker; his infant son, Steven Ray; son, Daniel Cephas; infant sister, Virginia; and brothers, Harold and Cowan Baker. He was also reunited with many more loved ones and friends. In the early 70's Ed pastured the Church of the Living God in Garland, W.Va., and served on the Board for the District. He was most happy and proud to have formed the Gospel Singing Baker Family of Yukon, W.Va. He enjoyed singing with his family at many numerous revivals and benefit concerts. Also one of his favorite past times was Coon Hunting and he enjoyed doing this with Zac, his brothers and friends. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Doris June Smith Baker, of whom he was married to for 52 years this past May; his sons and their spouses, Bradley Lee and Lori Baker, of Glade Hill, Brian and Joyce Baker, of Penhook, and Zac Toney, of the home; his daughters and their spouses, Danita and Joe Sheets, of Boones Mill, Dianne and Bobby Whitt, of Rocky Mount, Beverly and Joe Rutter, of Rocky Mount, Devinna Toney, of Roanoke, and Kim and Don Armstrong, of Penhook; his loving grandchildren, Jenny Sheets Taylor (Chris), Sarah Sheets Scott, Candice Whitt Fagg (Brian), Ashley Rutter, Bradley Baker, Brandie Baker, Joseph Sheets, Robert Whitt, Joshua Whitt, Brandon Armstrong and Erica Baker. He was a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren, Audrey Sprangler, Gabriel Scott, Josiah Rutter and Miracle Scott. His surviving sisters are Ruby Hall, of Indiana, and Yvonne Hamilton, of Lindside, W.Va.; and his brothers, Daris Baker, of Raysal, W.Va., Bobby Baker, of Bluewell, W.Va., Gerald Baker and Michael Baker, both of Lindside, W.Va. He will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2008, from Rocky Mount Church of God with Pastor Travis Gore and the Rev. Charles Rose officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Pastor Travis Gore, Dr. Robert Strong, and Carilion Hospice of Franklin County for their love and support during our loved one's illness. A very special thank you to Dr. Lindsay Sherrard for her compassion shown to our father. May God richly bless you all. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount, Va.

I love you papaw, and I will never forget you. I miss you so much and wish you were still here with us. I find myself thinking of you often and crying, remembering how much I love you! I know you are in a MUCH better place than this crazy world and you are dancing and worshipping God and having a wonderful time though... so I am happy for you. Happy for you, but often times sad for us. I am a bit jealous... you are seeing Jesus face to face!!! He has wiped away all your tears and pain. How amazing!!! I take comfort in knowing that you are not suffering anymore, that hurt me so deeply to see you suffer on and on and I also take comfort in knowing one day we will meet again in that beautiful place! Save me a place at the table! :) and please tell Jesus hi!
I will always be "papaw's baby".

To the rest of our family,
i love you all so much, you are so precious to my heart and I care deeply for you and I am so thankful for you!

Gran-Gran, hang in there... I am praying for you! I love you so much, you are a beautiful gran-gran!!! You are the best! God is healing your heart and giving you peace.
love always,
jen-jen

Zac, i love you too... you be there for granny... :)

Pawpaw, thanks for being a great role model, and telling us all about your coon and deer hunting stories. You had a great since of humor, making us laugh. When things got hard for you, you faced it with your humor. We will always remember our pawpaw. "Jobert & Rosh; Ick & Stick, Estep boys", always. We love you. PS. We can only imagine the nicknames you will be giving, Moses, David & Noah.

PawPaw,
I will cherish the memories that I have with you. From the famous hunting knife to you spanking us at poker. You also taught me alot about life; like how sometimes we have to sacrifice ourselves to help someone else. Though I hate to see you gone, I didn't want you to suffer anymore. So save a place for me at the table.

Daddy,
I'm glad I got to spend the last few hours of your life with you. There was no other place I would have rather been. I do have to say that I miss you, much! We grew so much closer together in the past 5 months. I wish we hadn't waited so long. I thank you for sharing that special part of your heart with me during that time. I will cherish it forever. I love and miss you. Your baby girl, Kim.

MRS. Glenna [Cowan] baker and family

September 9, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, ""I welcome you.""

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......""My day was not in vain.""
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
