Dany Holley Obituary

Dany (Paul) Holley, 86, of Roanoke, passed away quietly on Sunday, September 7, 2008. He was predeceased by his parents, Alcey Young Holley and Charlie Cassell Holley; brothers, Will Holley, Fred Holley, Charlie Richard Holley, Bufhurd Holley, Earnest Holley and Jim Holley, John Holley, Sammie Holley and Ted Holley; and sisters, Clydie Sink, Lucy Hall and Kitty Holley. Mr. Holley retired from Huttig Sash and Door and served in the United States Army during World War II. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Blanche Journell Holley; son, Dan Holley Jr. and wife, Mary Margaret, of Fincastle; two daughters, Judy Denton and husband, Michael, of Roanoke, and Deborah Morgan, of Richmond; grandchildren, Jeffrey Holley and wife, Jenny, of Charlotte, N.C., Susan Custer and fiance, Bob Ternosky, of Syracuse, N.Y., and Alison Kelley and husband, John, of Richmond; and greatgrandchildren, Katie, Jenna, Trey, Cassidy and Josh. Also surviving are his brothers-inlaw and sisters-in-law, L.F. "Pete" Journell and wife, Helen, Lewis Journell and wife, Barbara, Ken Journell and wife, Ann, Ben Hale and wife, Diane, and Virginia Holley, all of Roanoke, Donna Hale, of Bristol, Tenn., and Dot Holley, of Millville, N.J.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the caring staff of Eastwood Assisted Living, especially Carolyn, Eva, Linda, Myrna, Charlotte and Rita, and the second floor nurses. Thank you also to the Roanoke Memorial Hospital 8th and 12th floor nurses and doctors for their care during his recent illness. A special thank you to Clyde Austin from Patterson Memorial Brethren Church for faithfully visiting Dad every week. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Don Eshelman and Mr. Clyde Austin. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time at Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
