Fred Sarver Obituary

Fred Jackson Sarver, 80, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008. Mr. Sarver was an avid sportsman and a lifelong member of the Star City Hunt Club. He drew strength and support from his church family as a founding member of the Summerdean Church of the Brethren. Mr. Sarver served in the United States Army and retired as a Pharmacist from the Veterans Administration Hospital. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Meryle Stanley Sarver; his parents, Paris E. and Iona Caldwell Sarver; sisters, Violet E. Janney, Melba B. Sarver and Shelva J. Painter; and brothers, Richard J. Sarver, Clovis W. Sarver and Grover C. Sarver; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Sarver. Survivors include his wife, Karen J. Sarver, of Roanoke; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Steve Garrett, of Winchester, Lisa and Brad Houck, of Roanoke, and Stacey and Mark Harrison, of Roanoke; and sons and daughter-in-law, David and Jane Sarver, of Leesburg, and Ben Sarver, of Roanoke. Fred is survived by one stepson, Ricardo Fiorillo and his wife, Maria, of Jaen, Spain. Also surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and Buddy Craig, of Vinton. Mr. Sarver has 13 surviving grandchildren, Justin, Annie and Mykenzie Garrett, Amy, Kerry and Allison Sarver, Jesse and Austin Sarver, Kelsie Houck, Logan and Bryce Harrison, and Sergio and Andres Fiorillo. Fred is also survived by a sister-in-law, Edith Sarver; a brother-in-law, William Painter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2008, at Summerdean Church of the Brethren in Roanoke with the Reverend Stafford Frederick officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel. 540-362-1237. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the WARM Project or the Building Fund at Summerdean Church of the Brethren.

My thoughts are w/Karen, Ric and the rest of the Sarver family. I had a chance to spend time w/Fred and some of his family. I was so happy that one of my favorite people, Karen, was married to such a wonderful man w/such a great family. I am happy for the time they had together.
