Dorothy Firestone Dent

Dorothy Dent Obituary

Dorothy (Dot) Firestone Dent, 82, of Roanoke County, received her ultimate reward for keeping the faith on Friday, September 12, 2008, as she left this earth for her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Edward Firestone; her mother, Nora Campbell Firestone; a brother, Edward B. Firestone; and a sister, Evelyn Firestone Wertz. She is survived by her husband, George O. Dent; son, Gary L. Dent and wife, Donna; daughter, Crystal Dent and husband, Jesse East; grandchildren, Leigh Burger and husband, Mike, Berkeley Dent and wife, Nikki, Charles (Chas.) East; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Haley Burger and William (Will) Dent. Dot was a 1944 graduate of Jefferson High School. She was a charter member of Green Ridge Baptist Church and a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. She served for 30 years as secretary for her husband's business, Dent Heating & A/C.; however, her career was that of a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. George and Dot celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 3, 2008. Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, writing and supporting the Billy Graham ministries. Her lifelong passions were shopping and traveling. She and her family traveled extensively in the United States and abroad. One of her favorite destinations was Williamsburg, Virginia for the shopping and the history. However, on Friday, she made her final and most rewarding journey. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff (especially 7 Mountain and 9 South) of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospice for their expert care and support. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at Oakey's North Chapel Monday, September 15, 2008, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. J. Michael Palmer and the Rev. Greg Moser officiating. Interment will be held in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.

Many years ago, I was a member of Green Ridge church and knew the Dent family as some of the bed rock members of the congregation. Wonderful people. My sympathy to George, Gary and Crystal. I know your Mom is in Heaven with Sam, Sherman, Maxine so many of the other saints from Green Ridge! My prayers and sympathy go out to each of you.
