Andrew Ashworth Obituary

Andrew Taylor Ashworth, of Roanoke, Va., went to his final peace on Saturday, September 13, 2008, after a long and rich life of 93 years. He was born on November 1, 1914, in Spencer, Va. He served in the Army and Army Air Corp before the War. During World War II he joined the Navy and was commissioned a Lieutenant jg. training pilots to fly F4U Corsairs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Lilly Ashworth; his brother, George; sisters, Margaret, Helen and Louise; and his grandson, Eric Lee Ashworth. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Clarice; sister, Pauline Harless, of Wilson, N.C.; two sons, Michael Taylor Ashworth and his wife, Brenda, of Ocala, Fla., and Randy Ashworth and wife, Sue, of Blue Ridge, Va.; grandchildren, Janice, Marie and Todd Trail, of Blue Ridge, Michael Taylor and Julie Ashworth, of Delaware, Melissa and Brian Henry, of Delaware, and Matthew and Lisa Ashworth, of Delaware; greatgrandchildren, Cameron Ashworth, of Blue Ridge, Megan Trail, of Fincastle, Michael Ashworth, and Rebecca, Brian, Emily, Clare and Andrew Henry and William and Henry Ashworth, all of Delaware. The Ashworth family would like to thank the staff and nurses at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Salem for their support and care of Taylor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or a charity of your choice. The family will receive visitors from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel with private family interment at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

What a wonderful neighbor Taylor was. What fond members I have of listening to those stories Taylor could tell. Mike and I wish we could be with you at this time but we now live in Arizona. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
