Halsey Hill was one of my favorite people of “the greatest generation” (and he is mostly certainly one of those who help to earn that moniker). Because Halsey was friends with my family throughout my lifetime I don't ever remember not knowing him - but I do remember sailing with him in races at VISA when I was 11 & 12 years old.
More importantly, I value that we were able to reestablish our friendship when I moved back to Roanoke - and of course he charmed all the ladies he ever met - especially including my lady friend, Mary Beth.
Halsey had very full life and I know that everyone who knew him will feel that their own life now has an empty spot. We will all miss you buddy.
Emily – I am so sorry that I was out of town for the funeral but Halsey is in my prayers tonight. Please call me if I can help you in any way.

Hey Mimmie, did you ever think you'd get a note this way? I will always remember Halsey as a model of predictability and kindness.

On behalf of the VMI Class of 1939 let me express our condolences to Halsey's family. Halsey was a great help to me as I tried to become more familiar with the Class of '39 in my role as their honary Class Agent. I will miss him as I am sure his other Brother Rats will also.
In the Spirit of VMI.

To the Hill Family,
Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you. Mr. Hill was a remarkable man and will never be forgotten. Remember if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
