Bradford Sensabaugh Obituary

Bradford Glenn (Brady) Sensabaugh, 83, a resident of Evergreene Meadows, Stanardsville, Va., and formerly of Saluda, Va., passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2008, from Alzheimer's related illnesses.
He was born January 26, 1925, the eldest son of the late Carl A. and Katrina Belle Sensabaugh, of Kerrs Creek, Lexington, Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Hostetter Sensabaugh; and two brothers, Hunter H. Sensabaugh and Collins "Dick" E. Sensabaugh.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Ronald G. and wife, Sandy, of Ruckersville, and Bradford "Brad" B., of Saluda; four grandchildren, Jennifer S. Miller and husband, Peter, of Stanardsville, Va., Matthew G., of Staunton, Va., B. Lee, of Crozet, Va., and Laura J., of Matthews, Va.; four greatgrandchildren, Aidan and Heath Miller, and Seamus and Greenlee Sensabaugh. Brady's memory will also be cherished in the hearts of his surviving brother, Carl A. "Jun" Sensabaugh, of Kerrs Creek; and sister, Catherine S. Nicely, of Lexington.

Brady was a veteran of World War II, having served honorably in the United States Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Fechteler (DE-157), a member of the original commissioning crew, which was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean Sea. After recovering from his injuries, he was reassigned to the U.S.S. Oklahoma City (CL-91) and finished his military duty in the Pacific. He was also recalled to active duty for a short time during the Korean Crisis. Although Brady's formal education ended after the seventh grade, he mastered many skills including barbering, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding and many more. These skills served him well throughout his working career. He retired from Dominion Power in 1990 as a master electrician. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing, wintering in Florida, and visiting with family and friends.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at McDow Funeral Home with Pastor Lindsay Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro, Va., with honors conducted by the American Legion, Post #340.

The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evergreene Meadows, 422 William Mills Dr., Stanardsville, Va. 22973; Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Road, Suite 2, Charlottesville, Va. 22903-4819; Bay Aging, P.O. Box 610, Urbanna, Va. 23175; or to a charity of your choice.

Dear Dad,

I am just SO PROUD of the love, devotion and dedication that you showed in the care that you provided for Grandad over the last few years. I know that it took a lot of strength, both physically and mentally, and although you were fatigued you showed nothing but kindness in your care for him. It was a big task that you took on and being a caregiver is not something that everyone could do. I know Grandad was just as proud to have you for a son as I am to be your daughter. Know that Grandad is in the best of hands now, and that he is with Nanny. Your job is done and now you can rest and look back and know in your heart that you did your best by and for him. I have nothing but fond memories to look back on as I know you do. Much Love, Laura

Dear Brad,
I just wanted to acknowledge the strength you showed in the care of your father for so many years. I know it wasn't an easy thing to see your dad, always so strong, slipping away and I could see how extremely difficult it was and how it wore you down at times. You showed such love, dedication and tolerance even when you were weary, I admire you for that. I know "Grandad's" passing was very difficult for you. I find comfort in knowing he and Elsie are together again and now sharing their love for eternity. I hope you can find some comfort in this thought as well. I wish you peace in your heart and joy in your soul. Love, Diana
