Velva Carmen Davis

Velva Carmen Davis, 83, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 16, 2008. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Davis; her parents, Jasper Conner and Elizabeth Bowles Conner; eight sisters; and three brothers. Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Randel and Elaine Harris, Allen Harris, Steve and Sally Harris and Maurice Harris, all of Roanoke; five grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dexter Sowers, of Floyd, Georgianna and Leon Link, of Tennessee, and Arthur Conner, of Floyd; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Berkshire Health Care Center for all their care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Maranatha Baptist Church, P.O. Box 188, Shawsville, Va. 24162. Funeral services will be held noon on Friday, September 19, 2008, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Olen Gardner and Randel Harris officiating. Interment will be in The Head of the River Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
