Howard Jones Obituary

In loving memory of Howard Lee (Buddy) Jones Jr., of Blacksburg, Va., and Open Door Baptist Church. He was born on October 28, 1954, in Blacksburg, Va., and he died on Thursday, September 18, 2008, in Blacksburg, Va. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Howard L. and Helen S. Jones. Survivors include his son, Tommy Turman, whom he loved more than life; one brother, Windell Jones and wife, Lisa, of Blacksburg; four sisters, Louise Sumler and husband, Don, of Christiansburg, Barbara Scott and husband, Bobby, of Blacksburg, Peggy Hamblin, and husband, Jay, of Blacksburg, and Nancy Price and husband, Temple, of Maryland; as well a many nieces, nephews and special friends; extended family; caregivers; ministers; and Mike and Jim. Like bamboo growing toward the sun... Like a bird clinging to a tree branch... Like roots entwining themselves in soil... Thoughts return to the one who gives them life... Thoughts of Buddy were a special part of our lives. Buddy was filled with ambition, courage, and integrity even though he faced a life long disability. He honored everyone and expected nothing more but to love and be loved in return. Every life he touched blossomed into a beautiful flower. His life long passions were family, hard work and (yes) flowers. Smiles were free, laughs were often, but loving life and one another were a must. Friends were many and lasting never failing to encourage while giving of time, self, love and sharing. He's resting now in a garden that's eternal, Jesus blessed us once again. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2008, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Johnston, Mr. James O. Flaugher and Mr. Chuck Shelton officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheppard Family Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after noon on Sunday, September 21, 2008, and the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, S.W., Blacksburg, Va.

Dear Bro,
"Your Soul is Free"
Being long remembered
He's hanging from my soul
He's with our Heavenly Father now,
He's finally whole.

The fear, the pain, the suffering
Has finally gone away.
The tears that fell like rain
Are placed with sunny days.

Oh what a joyous feeling
To know you're safely home.
Your soul is free in heaven
And with angels there you roam.

Brother,
I miss you, I love you, I know Mom and Dad were so happy to see you. I will see ya'll one day.
See you in heaven
Sister Nancy

Hopi Prayer
-author unknown

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint in the snow.
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain.
I am the autumn's gentle rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there,
I did not die.

Peggy and family,
We were very sorry to learn of your recent loss. I am glad that MDA was able to assist with some of his equipment needs. I enjoyed meeting and talking with Buddy on the telephone the past 18 years I have been here at MDA.

Weep Not For Me

Weep not for me though I am gone
Into the gentle night
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my souls sweet flight.

There is no need for tears.
I am at peace, my soul is at rest
There is no pain, I suffer not,
For with your love I was so blessed.

I am in a place of comfort
The fear now is gone.
Put those things out of your thoughts,
In your memory I live on.

Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death
But celebrate my life.

We just heard of Buddy's passing, so we sadly missed the funeral. We will always remember Buddy as a wonderful, happy and kind friend and relative. When dad was able, he always enjoyed visiting Buddy. May God bless you all in the days ahead.

A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.

Barbara,Tommy, Nancy, Louise, Peggy and Wendell,

Dennis & I are so sorry to hear of Buddy's passing. We are sorry we cannot come to the funeral, as Dennis is in a nursing home at the present time, after a short stay in the hospital, and is in re-hab right now. We hope he will be coming home by the end of October...and I am battling severe spinal stinosis. We always admired Buddy and will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. Love,

Barb, I never had the honor of meeting Buddy but if he has a heart like yours then I know I would have loved him. I am so very sorry for your loss but there is nothing I can say to heal your pain but I do want you to know that if you ever need anyone to lean on then lean on me. I am here for you whenever you need someone to talk to.
Love you and miss you at work
