F. Shell Obituary

F. Harvey Shell Jr., 78, of Roanoke, Va., passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008. He was born July 22, 1930, and was retired after 37 years from Kroger Company as a manager at the Spartan Square store. He was retired after 21 years from the National Guard 116th Infantry 29th Division and was a member of First Church of the Brethren. He is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Darling; brothers, Donald and Billy Shell; and grandson, Josh Shell. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Shirley; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Carol Shell; daughters and son-in-law, Becky and Red Sackett, and Bonnie Dodson; grandchildren, Jason, Brian and Jordan Shell, Cora Arthur, Cassie Boitnott, Amy and Jacob Dodson; eight greatgrandchildren; brother, David Shell and wife, Jean; sister, Louise Laffoon and husband, Raymond; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund of the First Church of the Brethren, 2001 Carroll Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24017-6199. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Dava C. Hensley officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2008, at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
