Mary Knapp

1920 - 2008

Mary Knapp, 87, of Pulaski, died Sunday morning, August 17, 2008, in Beulah House in Dublin. She was born November 14, 1920, in Pulaski, and was the daughter of the late Ethel Cowles Knapp and Warren Emerson Knapp. She attended Radford College, was a life-long member of Christ Episcopal Church, a member of the Round Dozen Club, and a volunteer for the Fine Arts Center of the New River Valley. She was a bookkeeper for the former Park Belks Store in downtown Pulaski for over 30 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved stepmother, Fanny Noyes Knapp; two brothers, Ben Knapp and Emerson Knapp; three sisters, Cynthia K. Henske, Caroline Knapp and Katherine K. Sutherland; and a nephew, LaMonte Sutherland. She is survived by her nieces, Cary Sutherland, of Pulaski, and Alison Knapp Anderson, of Boston, Mass.; nephews, Warren Henske, of Mt. Prospect, Ill., Gus Knapp, of Falls Church, and Mike Knapp, of Carlise, Pa.; great-nephews, John Self, of Nashville, Tenn., Scott Mactavish, of Charlottesville, and Brian Self of Canon City, Colo.; greatnieces, Katherine Sutherland Dove, of Radford, and Nikki Sutherland Tessner, of Blacksburg, S.C.; and sisterin-law, Adelaide Knapp Wang, of Falls Church. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2008, at the Christ Episcopal Church, 144 North Washington Avenue, Pulaski with the Very Rev. Vickie Houk officiating. Interment will be private. The reception will follow the service in the Church Parish Hall at which time the family will receive friends. The family wishes to express its gratitude to Dr. John Knarr, the staff at Pulaski Retirement Community, the team with MediHome Health and Hospice and special caretakers for their extraordinary care, love and support during the past months.
