Dear Mary and Dylan,
Our family was so saddened by the news of Scott's death. We were very close to his family when he was just a little guy, so clever and cute. Having read the heartfelt comments by his students we know that he truly inspired and touched the lives of many young people. He became the wonderful man we knew he would become.
It will mean so much to Dylan as he grows older to read those wonderful words about his father.
Our thoughts and prayers go with you.
Sincerely,
Georgene & George Gmahling and family

Dear Mary, Dylan, Aunt Helen, Uncle Irv, Steve and Teri,

Our hearts are so saddened with the passing of our dear cousin, Scott. He was such a blessing to our family, and we have such great memories of Scott. Ofcourse, the most notorious memory is our "little Scotty" as the ring bearer in our wedding (stupid pillow!!!) We knew in that moment that he was going to bless our lives forever!! We got to spend precious time with him on his visits with us as a teenager. He always had a loving heart, and was so much fun to be around. We will miss him terribly. Our hearts and prayers are with all of you. Dylan, when you are ready to hear some "funny" stories about your dad, give us a call. We loved him so and we love all of you.

Scott, I still remember studying trig together in my basement while eating my mom's lemon cookies, waterskiing together, screaming down steamboat island road, and all the rest. Running (literally) around Hilton Head at Jud's wedding seems so recent. You were always the nicest and the smartest of us. I don't understand. I hope you are at peace wherever you are now, and may your family feel your continued love and guidance.

Dear Family, My name is Bob Sparks. I was Scott's English teacher at Capital High School. I was deeply moved upon reading the news of Scott's passing. I just wanted you to know that he was one of the finest young men I have ever encountered. He was a man of great personal strength, integrity and compassion. We were good friends, and he would visit me on his trips home. I will miss him dearly, and my prayers are with you and your son during this difficult time. He truly inspired me to be a better person and a better teacher. God Bless

Mary & Dylan: Scott was my first military boss when I was deployed to NGIC in 2001. We worked on several projects together. I last talked to Scott at the NGIC Library in the spring of 2008. I appreciated his dry wit & concern. He will be missed.

Mrs Wright, you do not know me, I am Eva Carter's mother, Stacey Houston's grandmother. When Eva told me how very sad Stacey was after learning of your husband's passing, I was sadden for him, and even more so for you, your son and your entire family , for the loss of such a special person, who apparently, was very well liked and respected by so many. My condolences are extended to each of you. May you find peace and comfort in our God and in each other.

I was a student at Brookville High School when Mr. Wright came to teach there in the late nineties. I had him for Social Studies, and I remember him being among my favorites. My friend Kyle and I would stay after class with Mr. Wright and talk about his lesson material, sports, college, and just life in general, and he would always have words of inspiration to share. I remember him talking of his service in the military and of his family, and he always spoke with purpose and dignity. My thoughts and condolences are with his family, as well as with those at Brookville High School.

Mary & Dylan--

Scott was our brother in arms. Marc Carter, Chris Hausman and I first met him in 1987 when we all were stationed in Augsburg, Germany. Over the years, although spread across the country, we remained close in spirit and bound by a genuine friendship. We loved him dearly. We will miss him terribly. The world is a sadder place without him.

I'll hold you both in my heart always,
Scott

Mary,
We haven’t met, but Scott and I worked in close proximity at NGIC over the past few years. I looked forward to working alongside him during his drill periods and enjoyed bantering with him throughout the day. During his last drill we worked across from each other. We also had the opportunity to share dinner together while my family was out of town and we discovered we had much in common. He spoke proudly and lovingly of you and Dylan, of his life as a teacher and the joys and challenges of teaching young adults. He would’ve been my kind of teacher: widely read, engaging and deeply interested in the success of his students. His passing came as a huge shock to us all, and only now we’re beginning to realize how keenly he’ll be missed at NGIC. Our prayers are with you and your son during this difficult time.

Dear Mary and Dylan,
You don't know us, but your sadness is felt clear across the country.
We think of the Allsop's as family. This includes Grandma and Grandpa Wright.
We have shared many happy and sad times with them.
The happy times included hearing about your beautiful wedding day. Then the great happiness when Dylan was born.
Steve often talked with great admiration of Scott's many accomplishments.
We now share your sorrow with your grieving family.
We send our love and strength.
Affectionately,
Carolyn and Ed Hannus

Scott,

Too many times high school awards do not pan out in real life. However in your case, the most inspirational award your earned during our senior year of baseball was only the beginning and now sounds like an understatement. In reading this guest book and the one from Brookville High School you have made a difference! You will be missed.

Hi Mary and Dylan,

I was one of the girls who worked at the Child Watch Day Care at the Downtown YMCA. I watched Dylan almost every Saturday during the summer of 2003. He was a wonderful little boy then and I can imagine he's a wonderful young man now. He was very good at hitting the baseball then and I'm sure he's even better now.

I was so sad to hear of Scott's passing on Wednesday. I remember he often talked about how he missed you when you were overseas and how Dylan would ask about you. He was always very excited to talk to you on the phone and how he really cherished those phone calls.

I saw him again about a year later and he and I chatted for a minute and he said he was so happy that you were back. He felt that he had is family together again.

I'm so sorry to hear that he is no longer with us. I can't imagine the pain that you are feeling. I am praying for you and trusting God will be with you through this sad time.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Scott and I were friends throughout high school, and the last time we corresponded was through a couple of emails right before our 20th class reunion. Mary, Dylan,
Scott was one of the best on the planet. I first met him Augsburg Germany and have kept in touch over the years. I can’t believe the news. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to you and the rest of the family. Scott was a Fantastic Leader, Comic, Soldier, Teacher, Competitor, Friend, and most of all a Great Family Guy. Whenever we chatted over the years the conversation always turned to family. He sure loved both of you. Scott will always be a top role model and respected by all of us. We lost a great friend and contributor to society! We are deeply sorry for your loss. God Speed to Him, Both of You, and the Rest of the Family.

Mary, our hearts go out to you and yours. As you know, Mr. Wright taught my son Stacey. He thought just as much of Mr. Wright as Mr. Wright did of him. I thank him for everything that he did for Stacey as well as the other students who looked up to him. Stacey made 4 touchdowns this past Friday. He text us and said, "2 for y'all and 2 for Mr. Wright!" That told me how much he admired him. Thanks Mr. Wright for being such a wonderful influence. Mary and Dylan... you are lucky to have this angel watching over you.

Dear Mary and Dylan,
I met Scott about five years ago when you were away on duty. Scott would often bring Dylan to the YMCA and Dylan and my son, Hunter, would play together in the nursery. The boys got along so well that we had some great playdates throwing a baseball around the yard. Scott always spoke lovingly about you and how proud he was of you and how much he missed you. You are both in our thoughts and prayers. With love, Katie

To Mary, Dylan, and the Wright Family,

I am saddened and shocked at the news of Scott’s loss. My heart goes out to you and all of Scott’s loved ones, students, and friends. I know there were many, as Scott was the kind of person who naturally drew others to him by his engaging personality and warm sense of humor. I saw Scott briefly the last time he was in Charlottesville drilling—he was excited about Dylan and the family, as well as the classes he was teaching at Brookeville.

I remember meeting Scott when he reported to the NGIC back in 2001 and have seen him off and on since. He was always one of the most earnest, positive, and professional people I have had the pleasure of working with. He was also devoted to his family and students—although he loved serving his country, he would tell me almost every day how he missed his loved ones and could not wait to get back in the classroom with his students. I am grateful for the privilege of knowing and working with Scott. He will be sorely missed by his NGIC family.

God speed; I hope those left behind are able to find peace in the joy Scott brought to others’ lives. We keep him and you in our prayers.

I have known Scott since the 6th grade and Irv was my orchestra teacher. Scott was truly a beautiful person and I am so shocked that he is gone. My sympathy goes to the entire family. Scott really did touch a lot of different lives and he will be remembered. I am sorry that I never got the chance to see him again and tell him that we need more people like him on this planet.

Scott was such a great person who always greeted me with a smile.
His enthusiasm for History and his love for his students and his family were such as part of who he was.
I pray for his family, students and co-workers as they remember him in this difficult time.

My heart aches for Scott's family; God bless them all. Scott was as a second son to me, and close to our family, during his middle school and high school years, and I have followed his career and whereabouts ever since. The Morrow family here in Washington will always love him and miss him. He was smart, fun, interesting, handsome and talented both athletically and academically. Goodbye to our wonderful friend. God's love to your parents, wife, son, brother and sister.

September 27, 2008

As a neighbor of Scott for over 10 years, my husband and I always enjoyed talking with him while our kids played together. He was so knowledgeable on so many fronts. We shared a common love of sports and we knew we could count on him (and Dylan, his son) to update us on the latest standings in professional baseball and or football. It seemed like Scott and Dylan were eternally outside in the yard, throwing the baseball or football. He always welcomed our kids to join them. If they weren't in the yard, they were most likely at a Hillcats game or a local college game.

We were so impressed when his wife had to serve our country, and Scott raised Dylan alone for about a year. It was obvious that his devotion to his family was first and foremost.
Reading the thoughts of his students has revealed a dimension of Scott that we were not exposed to, but only adds to the level of respect and admiration we had for him.
Scott will always be remembered and certainly will be missed on our street.

I ran into Mr. Wright about 3 years after I graduated. My husband and I had just returned to Lynchburg from being stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA. All he could talk about was his love for the military and his family. He was my teacher when I attended BHS and I will miss his jokes the most! He definately knew how to capture the attention of his students in and out of class. Mr. Wright you will be missed. To the Wright family, you will be in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless!

Mary and Dylan my thoughts and prayers are with you. I met Scott in the Army and what I remember most about him was how much he cared for those around him. How my heart goes out to each one of you at the loss of Scott. Though he was my cousin, I didn't have the opportunity to know him well.
