Jimmy L. Weems

Jimmy L. Weems, 77, of Hardy, Va., passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008. He was born in Alabama, September 8, 1931, son of the late Alonzo and Nell Perrin Weems. His brother, Edward "Luke" Weems, also preceded him in death. Mr. Weems served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Grumman Emergency Products. He was a long time member of Thrasher United Methodist Church. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sara; children, Julie Link and husband, Mike, of Vinton, Jeff Weems and wife, Debbie, of Boones Mill, and Jon Weems, of Hardy; brothers, Tom Weems and wife, Geraldine, and Doug Weems and wife, Judy; sister, Wanda Ray; sister-in-law, Ramona Weems, all of Alabama; grandchildren, Jeffrey Weems II and wife, Kristi, Travis Weems and wife, Kristy, Tyler Weems, Jeremy Link, Heather Armstrong and husband, Mark, and Valerie Link; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and other family members. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2008, at the Chapel of Thrasher United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lynne Alley-Grant will officiate. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.
