G. Lemon Obituary

G. Fred Lemon, 88, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, September 26, 2008. Fred served in the United States Army during World War II and in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post 3 in Salem and was an active member of Grandin Court Baptist Church and the Co-Ed Sunday School class. Fred retired as project manager from the Virginia Department of Economic Development and was a former member of U.C.T. and Southern Economic Development Council. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gracen K. and Bertha White Lemon; and his loving wife of 68 years, Mary A. Lemon. Surviving are his nephew, Gary Johnson and wife, Jenny; nieces and nephews, Brenda and Robert Cooke, Pamela and Richard Cooke, Loreili and Walter Martin, and Julia Lee and Jasper Peters; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; special friends, Rebecca Harrison (and her deceased father, Marvin Holcombe), Bob and Dana Evans and Glenna Sue Simpson. It is requested that instead of flowers, donations be made to the Building Fund of Grandin Court Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, on Monday, September 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Meadows officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m., at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131

We are sorry to hear of the passing of Fred. Knew him from our Sunday School class at Grandin Court Baptist Church when we lived in Roanoke, VA. Nice man. To all the family our deepest sympathy.
