Willie Shelton Obituary

Willie G. Shelton, 89, of Wythe County, Virginia., son of the late Neva and George Shelton, passed away September 25, 2008, at Wythe County Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Madeline Reynolds Shelton; and a sister, Nellie Shelton. Willie, a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II, was retired from Radford Army Ammunition Plant and was a member of Grover King VFW Post 1115 of Hillsville. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Glenia Ogle Spencer Shelton, of the home; daughter, Deborah Shelton Wood; granddaughter, Kristen Wood; stepchildren, Curtis Spencer, Zana Spencer Stone, Janice Spencer Sutherland, Lowetta Spencer Parnell; several grandchildren; sisters, Fannie S. Alexander, Emma Shelton, Mamie S. Daugherty; nephew, Conrad Alexander; nieces, Peggy Daugherty Smith and Iris Brown. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Holly Phillips officiating. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sanders Cemetery on Major Graham Road in Wythe County, Virginia. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 600 West Ridge Road, Wytheville, Virginia 24382; or Lead Mines Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 502, Austinville, Virginia 24382. Reese Funeral Home in Austinville, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
