Dolly Williams Obituary

Dolly Jeanette Porterfield Williams, 83, of Blacksburg, Va., and formerly of Waiteville, W.Va., precious mother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 29, 2008, at Heritage Hall Health Care in Blacksburg. She was born on July 13, 1925, to the late Elbert Dewey Porterfield and Virginia Edith Steele Porterfield, of Waiteville, W.Va. She was a hard worker, who was compassionate and dedicated to duties as a certified nursing assistant. Dolly worked many years at Rowan Nursing Home in Sweet Springs, W.Va. She was a member of the Paint Bank Fire and Rescue Squad and Women's Auxiliary in Paint Bank, Va., where she thoroughly enjoyed serving with the community as an EMT. One of our best memories of Mom and a special time would be on Sunday afternoon with her Southern cooked meal. She always added that little extra spice of love in her cooking.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald O'Dell Eppling; granddaughter, Robin Fisher; grandson, Kevin Eppling; and a son-in-law, Alfred K. Anderson Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters and very special sons-in-law, Bonnie Anderson, of Bland County Nursing Home in Bastian, Connie and Jimmy Fisher, of Pembroke, and Charlotte and Mike Epperley, of Blacksburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Monte and Irma Eppling (who she thought of as her daughter), of Pembroke, and Ricky and Teri Eppling, of Pembroke; and a special sister and brother-in-law of Dolly's children, who Dolly thought a lot of and enjoyed their visits from time to time, Merinda and Jeff Williams, of Pembroke. She leaves 12 grandchildren who she adored and cherished all the same, Kerry Woodbury, of Narrows, Andy Anderson, of Pulaski, Tonya and Rodney Vaden, of Blacksburg, Angie and Mike Falls, of Eggleston, Bubby and Mellissa Fisher, of Pembroke, Kim and Chris Niece, of Pembroke, Frankie Eppling, of Washington, D.C., Melissa and Anthony Austin, of Fort Chiswell, Brad and Amy Epperley, of Blacksburg, Brandon Epperley, of Blacksburg, Adam and Beth Eppling, of Pembroke, and Andrew Eppling, of Pembroke. She also leaves 13 great-grandchildren who were just as precious to her as her grandchildren, Walker Heth Woodbury, of Eggleston, Christopher Anderson, of Bear Spring, Emily and Elly Anderson, of Pulaski, Samuel Vaden, of Blacksburg, Kent Falls, of Eggleston, Cody Fisher, of Findley, Ohio, Megan Fisher, of Pembroke, Noell Niece, of Pembroke, Amber Eppling, of Fort Chiswell, Cole and Parker Epperley, of Blacksburg, and Nolan Eppling, of Pembroke. She was hoping to see two more great-grandchildren arrive in the near future. She also leaves two special sisters and a special brother-in-law, Doris Wykle, and Jackie and Bill Guiney, all of Waiteville, W.Va. She also leaves three special brothers and three special sisters-in-law, Harmon and Vonice Porterfield, of Crestview, Fla., Kermit and Arlene Porterfield, Leon and Willa Mae Porterfield, of Waiteville, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2008, in New Zion Union Church, Rays Siding Road in Waiteville, W.Va., with the Rev. Dewey Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke on Wednesday evening, October 1, 2008, from 6 to 9 p.m. Flowers are appreciated, however, donations may be made to the New Zion Union Church at Waiteville, W.Va., c/o Miriam Porterfield, 3550 Waiteville Road, Waiteville, W.Va. 24984; Paint Bank Fire and Rescue Squad, Paint Bank, Va. or the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress St., Blacksburg, Va. 24060.

"These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." John 16:33.
"Mom you have overcome this life with dignity, strength and pain. Our hearts are hurting and we will miss you dearly. You have shown us how to love, forgive and cherish the important things in life. You have been such a beautiful, humble Mom, who always had a smile on her face, even on your worst day. You never had any negative words against anyone and as one of your granddaughters stated, you never judged any of us, even on our worst days. You gave us your unconditional love with your tender heart and soul. You made sure that each of us was treated with grace and fairness. Most importantly, how God has blessed all of us to have had you as a Mom, Mother-in-law, Grandmother and GreatGrandmother. Your memory will live in our hearts forever. Mom you are finally at Peace. May you rest now with our Heavenly Father. We can only imagine what Heaven is like. We will see you again some day!"

I went by Kendalls before the public family visitation so I did not get to talk to the family. But, I just wanted to say that Dolly was as beautiful as ever. She is at peace now with the Lord. My sincere condolences to the family. Love and prayers from both of us. Jackie and Pam Williams

The Eppling Family, I leave with you so many fond memories of your mother. I used to spend many nights with Bonnie as I was growing up. Dolly was always very kind and loving toward me and always shared a lot of hugs. Dolly will be missed greatly and my heart goes out to each of you. May God Bless and keep you in His care.
