Bob Davies

1939 - 2008

Bob Davies, of both Martinsville and Moneta, Va., entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Bob was born on September 28, 1939, to the late Rev. Robert Thomas Davies and Alma Michael Davies in Raton, N.M. Bob was also predeceased by a sister, Roberta DeWald. Bob was a proud graduate of Oklahoma University and had a long and successful career in sales. He began his career with General Foods, Johnson and Johnson, and Marketing Continental, Inc. Bob started his own marketing and sales firm in 1980. In 1983, Bob purchased a business from one of his clients. Bob began with one retail store in Fairfax, Va., and expanded that business into five retail stores in the Washington, D.C., area. He retired and sold that business in 1989. In his retirement years, Bob was a real estate agent, worked for an automobile agency in Durham, N.C., and worked for several insurance agencies. Bob is survived by his wife, Peggy Young Davies; a sister and brother-in-law, Mike and Bill Woodruff, of Poteau, Okla.; nephews, William and David Woodruff, and their families of Oklahoma; stepdaughter, Mona Young Fergeson and husband, Paul, of Virginia Beach; and stepson, Steven Young, of Roanoke. Bob will be remembered by many life-long friends and business associates. He was blessed with a very caring church family. A celebration of Bob's life will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at the Henry Fork Church of the Brethren at 130 Doe Run Road in Rocky Mount, Va. 24151. The Rev. Ronald Coleman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Henry Fork Church of the Brethren Building Fund at 322 Eastover Road in Rocky Mount, Va. 24151.
