Rodney Goolsby Obituary

Rodney Madison Goolsby, 63, of Buena Vista, Va., died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, Va. He was born July 23, 1945, in Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington, Va. He was the son of Dorothy Jenkins Goolsby, of Buena Vista, and the late Rodney Jeffress Goolsby. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Carolyn S. Goolsby; and a brother, Jeffrey L. Goolsby, all of Buena Vista, Va.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Wayne and Margaret Spencer; and nephew and niece, Matthew Spencer and Ashley Spencer, of Lexington. Rodney graduated from Parry McClure High School and Roanoke Technical School. He retired from Modine Manufacturing in March 2005 as Field Service Supervisor with 41 years of service. Rodney was a Lifetime Member of the Buena Vista Fire Department, which he joined in the late 1960's, serving as Chief for several years during the 1970's and 1980's. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Lexington, Va. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Alfred Fogleman officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service. Burial in the Alone Mill Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Buena Vista First Aid, P.O. Box 668, Buena Vista, Va. 24416, the Buena Vista Fire Department, 2010 Sycamore Avenue, Buena Vista, Va. 24416 or a charity of your choice.
