Sherman Dixon Obituary

Sherman Rufus Dixon, 85, of Wytheville, Va., went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 1, 2008. He was the son of the late Peter Rufus and Lillian Corvin Dixon. He was retired from Wythe County Schools, a life time member of Evergreen United Methodist Church and a life time member of American Legion Post # 9. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Dixon Hoback; three sisters; and one brother. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty two years, Ola Creger Dixon, of the home; two sons, Charles Boyd Dixon, of Grove City, Ohio, Larry Ray Dixon, of Logan Dale, Nev.; one daughter, Nancy Dixon Spraker, of Max Meadows; two brothers and sister-in-law, Guy Daniel and Vera Dixon, of Roanoke, Alvin Buddy Dixon, of Wytheville; six grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews and host of friends also survive. Funeral service will be Sunday 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Ted Anders and the Rev. Tim McCobin with the interment in the Evergreen Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Grubb Funeral Home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Evergreen Cemetery fund c/o Asbury Bridges Jr., 1390 West Monroe St., Wytheville, Va. or Chalmer Frye, P.O. Box 144, Wytheville, Va. 24382. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
