Aubrey Wood Obituary

Aubrey Willard (Jack) Wood, 86, of Huddleston, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 2, 2008. He was born in Hollins, Va., on August 20, 1922, son of the Late Garland M. and Irene Bradley Wood. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Clayden E., Wilburn F., and Garland "Butch" Wood; and two sisters, Mayonna Fink and Stella Davis. He is survived by "The Love of His Life," of 64 years, Hazel O. "Pete" Wood; three sons, Aubrey Richard Wood and fiancée, Barbara, of Bedford, Ronald A. Wood and his wife, Darlene, of Roanoke, and Garland "Mort" Wood and his wife, Greta, of Bedford; two daughters, Betty W. Overstreet and her husband, Gary, of Bedford, and Josie W. Arney and her husband, Earl, of Goode; 10 grandkids; 11 greatgrandkids; one brother, James and his wife, Wilma, of Roanoke; three sisters, Lorene Shell, of Roanoke, Nancy Duncan and husband, Don, of Richmond, and Judy Wood, of Hardy; many nieces and nephews; special nephew/son, Tommy Fink and his children; and many friends and neighbors. He was a member of Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy, was retired from Pepsi Cola of Hollins and a veteran of the United States Army during World War II, wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. He was an accomplished musician sharing his love of music with many, playing various radio shows, often performing for various charities and community events. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2008, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Roger Graves Sr. officiating. Burial was at Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, Va. A memorial service and celebration of Jack's life will be held 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2008, at Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Hospice Team in Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy Building Fund, c/o Frances Woodford, 2886 Crab Orchard Road, Huddleston, Va. 24104, to the Moneta Rescue Squad, c/o Mike Harper, Treasurer, P. O. Box 497, Moneta, Va. 24121 or to the Huddleston Lifesaving Crew, c/o Harold Glass, 207 Sherwood Drive, Huddleston, Va. 24104.

I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THE LITTLE SPECIAL TALK THAT UNCLE JACK AND I HAD BEFORE MY FATHER DIED AT THE HOSPITAL IN 1999.
