Mary Riggle Obituary

Mary Madeline Haley Riggle, 84, went to her heavenly home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at Pulaski Retirement Community, where she had resided for the last three years. Mary was born November 12, 1923, in Pocahontas, Va., to the late Charles Robert and Annie Vires Haley. She grew up in the Snowville and Hiwassee areas of Pulaski County. Mary graduated from Draper High School, in 1942. On December 7, 1947, she married Kermit King Riggle and they had 53 wonderful years together. Mary retired from Jefferson Mills, in 1987, after working there for 30 years. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, Va., for over 60 years where she was a member of the Friendly Bible Class and the United Methodist Women. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Vernon Haley; and her beloved husband, Kermit Riggle. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Riggle Cain and her husband, Sherman (Sonny), of Pulaski, Brenda Riggle Haymore and her husband, Joe, of Knoxville, Tenn.; two grandsons, Mike Price and his wife, Chrissy, of Draper, Va.; Chris Price, of Christiansburg, Va.; granddaughter, Molly Haymore, of Knoxville, Tenn.; her sister, Lois Haley Coulter, of Aberdeen, Md.; several nieces, nephews, cousins; two stepgranddaughters and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Mary also loved the staff and residents of Pulaski Retirement Community and her special caregivers. The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to Medi Home Health and Hospice for their care. Mary was the epitome of a lady. A lady that was gracious, reserved in her actions, always placing everyone else's needs in front of her own and she had one of the sweetest smiles that you knew always came from her heart! A celebration service of her life will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, Va., with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. The interment will follow at 3 p.m. in West End Cemetery, Wytheville, Va. Visitation will be at Seagle's Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. As per her request, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 135 4th St., Pulaski, Va. 24301 (Maintenance Fund or Pastor's Discretionary Fund) or St. Mark United Methodist, 7001 Northshore Dr., Knoxville, Tenn. 37919 (Moses Basket). Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.seaglefuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Thomas M. Seagle & Sons, Pulaski.
