James Nance Obituary

James (Jimmie) Gray Nance, 91, of Moneta, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, October 17, 2008 at Berkshire Nursing Home. He was born on Thursday, August 2, 1917 in Bedford County, Virginia, a son of the late Walter Scott Nance and Sallie Elisabeth Watson Nance. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 59 years, Frances Huddleston Nance, sisters, Marian Luck and Agnes Huddleston Nance, brothers, Walter Watson Nance, Floyd Otey Nance and Elwood Nance. After he retired from Rubatex as a pressman, where he was employed for 41 years, he continued to farm the land he loved. He is survived by his son, James Ronald Nance, of Moneta; two daughters, Alice N. Boarman of Olney, Md. and Linda E. Nance, of Moneta; four grandchildren, Eric Jameson Boarman, Ashley M. Boarman, both of Maryland, Stephanie N. Nance, Alyssa M. Stephenson, both of Moneta; two brothers, Laurie B. Nance, of Mt. Airy, N.C., John Kut-le Nance, of Modesto, Calif.; and a sister, Gaynelle Nance Gaillard, of Indian Wells, Calif. Jimmie devoted his life to the service of his church, Grace Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a charter member, Deacon, historian and other various positions for 56 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served four years in the United States Army and two years in the reserves, both stateside and in Europe. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Grace Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 187, Bedford, VA 24523 or the D-Day Memorial, P.O. Box 77, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 11 a.m. at Grace Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Greg Rogers and the Rev. George Law officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2008. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
