Although, I did not know your mother, I felt a connection when I saw the obituary. I grew up in Grove Park, the neighborhood surrounding Castlewold and always knew Mr. Hines had a granddaughter named Rebecca.
As children we were very afraid of Mr. Hines, for no reason at all - just normal childhood rumors and superstitions. Finally one Halloween, we bravely went up to the house and were invited in (Mrs. Hines was deceased by this time) and had an opportunity to meet your grandfather who was the kindest old gentleman one could ever imagine. I also remember seeing him pass our house many times a day in the yellow taxis that he always rode.
I am sorry for your loss and had I been in town I would have attended the graveside service.
