Paul Sexton Obituary

Paul Monroe Sexton, Jr., 76, of Marion, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2008 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. He was born in Smyth County, Virginia on October 6, 1932 to the late Paul Monroe Sexton, Sr. and Margie Irene Ayers Sexton. Mr. Sexton attended Clemson University and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War. During his career in radio and television sports broadcasting, he was the "Voice of MRN" at Darlington Speedway for 17 years, sports announcer for WJMX radio in Florence, South Carolina, and General Manager of WCRR radio in Rural Retreat, Virginia. Mr. Sexton was a member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church, the Rural Retreat American Legion Post, and the Lions Club, serving as District Governor of 24-F from 1994-1995. Survivors Include his wife, Mary Ann Sexton; two daughters, Cindy Sexton (Bobby) Pridgen, Debbie Sexton (Greg) Talbert; three stepdaughters, Virginia B. (Dickie) Duncan, Christy B. (Ricky) Hilton, Tricia B. (Kenneth) Cox; two grandchildren, A.J. and Ashley Talbert; two aunts, June Ward and Belle Ayers. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2008, at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Eddie Beck officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the Hutton-Cox Cemetery in Sugar Grove with full military honors rendered by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667. Donations may be made to the Old Dominion Eye Foundation, 9200 Arboretum Pkwy. Suite 104, Richmond, VA 23236. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home of Marion, Virginia is serving the family of Mr. Paul Sexton, Jr.
