John Thomas Wade

John Wade Obituary

John Thomas Wade, of Roanoke, Va., laid his hand in the hand of Jesus and went home to be with the Father on Sunday, October 19, 2008, at the age of 97. Born on February 5, 1911, to the late George and Gracie Wade in Ferrum, Va., Thomas was the second of eight children. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, a retired coal miner and an active member of the Masons. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Hester Lucille Wade; four brothers, Charlie, Hubert, Jack and Grover; and two sisters, Jessie and Mabel. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Alma Anne (Bobby) Twine; two grandchildren, the Reverend Bobby Twine Jr. and Sharon Twine Gentry (James Lewis); two greatgrandchildren, Micyle (Mari) Gentry and Naudia (Rashad) Alexander; three great-greatgrandchildren, DeAndre Johnson, Zahneke Gentry and Lerone Alexander; one sister, Sallie Wade Jamison; two sisters-in-law, Helen (Joe) Clements and Frozina Gibson; 10 nephews, James and Derek Divers, Roosevelt Taylor, David Via, Frank and Bobby Jamison, Taylor, Gordon and Michael Hancock; 12 nieces, Ellen Wright, Elizabeth Paige, Shirley Dawson, CasSandra Jamison, Mary Hodges, Kimberly Gwyn, Kathy Johnson, Brenda Taylor, Anna Winston, Shawanda Stephens, Linda Robinson and Gracie Burrel; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph A. Keaton officiating. The interment will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing until 4 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis and viewing will resume at 5 p.m. at the church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2008, at Central Baptist Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.
