I knew Mr. Fisher in 1965, as a student in his 8th grade Science class at Robert E. Lee Junior High School in Roanoke, Virginia. It was fascinating, to be in his class. He would read from "My Ninety Acres" by Louis Bromfield, we watched honeybees in an observational hive, we observed canaries raising their young in a classroom aviary, we saw eggs in an aquarium develop into tadpoles, then adult frogs...I remember the answer to his question, "What is the richest source of B vitamins? Cow manure." Well, that wasn't profound, but it was funny, and thought-provoking. That's what a great teacher is supposed to do, isn't it? Encourage students to think. God bless you, Mr. Fisher, and the loved ones you have left behind!

Nancy and I met Russell back in the late 70's when he had the spring beekeeping classes at Breckenridge Middle School. We always loved him and enjoyed his company. He is one of the people I have met over the years that was a major influence. I always admired his pleasent, positive attitude. He was always inclusive with people. There was always room and time for everyone. Anyone's opinion was included. He taught us how to keep bees and was a shining example of how to be a person in the process. The world has lost one of it's best.
