Alvin Caviness Obituary

Alvin Roy Caviness, 84, of Shorts Creek, Va., went to be with the Lord and be reunited with his wife on October 19, 2008, surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter, Wanda. He was born on September 22, 1924, in Carroll County to the late George and Georgie Caviness. He was a member of Pickett's Chapel Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Mabry Caviness; two sons, Archie Wayne and James Caviness; son-in-law, Buck Lang; grandson, Timmy Quesenberry; and a brother, June Caviness. He is survived by two daughters, Wanda Lang, of Christiansburg, Va., and Sharon Abel, of Radford, Va.; four grandchildren and spouses, Lewis and Leah Quesenberry, Chris and Ruth Quesenberry, Rodney and Missy Quesenberry, all of Christiansburg, Va., and Tina and Lee Beck, of Mt. Airy, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren, Travis, Maleah, Ashley, Josh, Brittany, Abbe and Emily; one brother and sister-in-law, Dewey and Marie Caviness, of Austinville, Va.; eight sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Bob Rosenbaum, of Austinville, Va., Mandy and Daniel Ogle, of Austinville, Va., Claudia Mabe, of Woodlawn, Va., Eloise Clontz, of Hillsville, Va., Cora and Bobby Lindsey, of Hillsville, Va., Iris and Junior Coble, of Hillsville, Va., Mamie Ann Brooks, of Atkins, Va., and Betty Clyburn, of Advance, N.C.; two special sisters-in-law, Mattie Bell Coble, of Barren Springs, Va., and Imogene Caviness, of Austinville, Va.; special brother-in-law, Claude Mabry, of Barren Springs, Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Lawson, the Rev. Ronnie Stuart and the Rev. Carl Forrester officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Christian Church Cemetery, Draper, Va. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Laurel Rescue Squad, 1542 Rescue Road, Austinville, Va. 24312. The family would like to thank the Progressive Care Unit at NRVMC for the wonderful care they gave Alvin and to Carilion New River Valley Hospice. A special thanks to Joy, Pam, Karen and Nancy. Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
