Wayne Hovencamp Obituary

Wayne E. Hovencamp Sr., 65, of Wytheville, Va., went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 21, 2008. He was born on September 5, 1943, in McAfee, N.J., to Everett and Thelma Reed Hovencamp. He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966 as a medic. He belonged to the American Legion Post #7 of Pulaski. He was preceded in death by parents; some aunts and uncles; and a loving daughter, Dodi Hovencamp Smith. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joanne Neathery Hovencamp, of the home; daughter, Carol Taylor, of Wytheville; sons and daughters-in-law, Everett and Jennifer Hovencamp, of Poolesville, Md., and Wayne Jr. and Julie, of Wytheville; daughter-in-law who he loved very much, Michele Campbell, of Max Meadows; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Clifford Predmore, of Montique, N.J.; brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Louanne Hovencamp, of Wytheville; brothers-in-law and spouse, Joseph and Teresa Neathery Jr., of Ninety Six, S.C., and David Neathery, of Raleigh, N.C.; sister-in-law, Linda Quick, of Long Pond, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, Tony Taylor Jr., Christi Hovencamp, Krista Karr, Christopher Hovencamp, Nicole Hovencamp, Delores Smith, Tara Richardson, Melanie Hovencamp, Hannah Hovencamp, Jessica Bowman, and Jared Hovencamp; one godchild, Jayden Stoots; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2008, in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ed Richardson with the interment in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. American Legion Post #9 will conduct Military Graveside Rites. The family will receive friends at Grubb Funeral Home on Thursday, October 23, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family would like to thank a special doctor who has seen him and the family through all of this; you are a very special person, thank you Dr. Langley, and to the staff of Interpid USA of Pulaski. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
