Margaret Goad Obituary

Mrs. Margaret Martin Goad, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. She was born on April 25, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Guy L. and Louise Underwood, of Roanoke. She was predeceased by her husbands, James C. Martin and Horace Goad; and brothers, Buddy, Guy L. Jr. (Sonny), Bobby, and James Underwood. She is survived by her loving daughter and best friend, Annette Yeatts; and devoted son-in-law, John Yeatts, of Blue Ridge; her special granddaughter, Kristi Brown; and loyal grandson-inlaw, Mike Brown, of Roanoke; the pride and joy of her life, great-granddaughter, Taylor Annette Brown; greatgrandson, Ryan Brown; devoted stepson, Maurice Goad, of Hardy; sisters, Helen Graham and husband, Sonny, of Roanoke, Betty Myers, of Vinton, and Patty Ross, of Mechanicsburg, Pa; sister-inlaw, Allie Underwood, of Blacksburg; and many loving and special nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Margaret was a faithful member of Villa Heights Baptist Church and of the Bethany Sunday School Class. She enjoyed volunteering throughout the years at Lincoln Terrace Elementary School, where her daughter teaches, and most importantly she enjoyed babysitting her great-granddaughter, Taylor. She was a wonderful Christian lady who devoted her life to her family and always put others first. She will be greatly missed. A special thank you to the staff at Raleigh Court Health Center and Third Floor West at Lewis Gale Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2008, at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Lotz Salem Chapel with Pastor Jake Huffman officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven. -Matthew 5:16

Annette and family: As a first cousin of Margaret, I have many memories to cherrish from childhood as our families were very close and always lived near each other. I use to love to hear her play the piano and one day when she was playing, she stated that "the Old Rugged Cross" was her favorite hymn. As a kid it left an impression on me and continued to remind me of Margaret down through the years each and every time I heard it sung or played. You all were so blessed to have such a dedicated Mom and Grandmother. She will be sorely missed.
With love and deepest sympathy,

Annette and family, Im sorry for the loss of Margaret. Aunt Margaret had a way of making anyone she came into contact with smile. I can still her voice as she would reply to a story I would tell her and she could not believe it...Well I swonie (sp) to my soul.... I chuckle as I type. God bless her sisters and all the family. Heaven just became a brighter place.

Annette, I have great sadness that my Aunt Margaret is gone. I have joy that she is now not suffering and is in a better place.
I will hold all my mermories of her in my heart so that I still feel like she is with me. I not only lost an aunt but a friend. She was always there for me, with encouragement and love. I will try to be like her and give those things to other people.
If I can be of any help, please let me know.

Love, Andrus
