Lillie Smith Obituary

Lillie Edna Smith, 88, of College St. in Narrows, Va., departed this life on Monday, October 27, 2008, at Evergreen Manor in Standardsville, Va., after a long illness. Born in Giles County on November 21, 1919, she was a daughter of the late James Edward and Glenna Blankenship Perdue. She was a beloved mother to her whole family, a member of the Cedar Grove Church of Christ on Wolf Creek near Narrows, and had been employed at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Winston A. Smith; her great-grandson, Robert James Smith; her son-in-law, Jackson Martin; her brother, James Perdue; and her sisters, Bertha Parcell and Edith Goad. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Lee and Gloria Smith, of Covington, Va., and Charlie Marshall and Karen Smith, of Norfolk; her daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Elmer Spicer, of Spotsylvania, Va., Winnie Edna Martin, of Narrows, Va., and Rebecca and Stephen Johnston, of Troutville, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Roven and Joann Perdue, of Ripplemead; sisters, Ruth Parcell Russ, of Narrows, Maxine Agee, of Narrows, Ilene Harrison, of Pearisburg, and Cloye Ann Byrd, of Ravevnwood, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; and four greatgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2008, in The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, October 29, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting kendallfuneralhome.com.
