Raymond McCoy Agee

Raymond McCoy Agee, 86, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2008. He joined his loving wife of 63 years, Hattie LaPrade Agee. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn Agee and Donna, Michael Agee and Debby, and Charles Agee and Vanessa; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Agee Hartsel and Robert; grandchildren, Heather A. Barnard and husband, John, Monica Haddock and husband, David, Shannon Agee, Tamara A. Scheib and husband, Clay, Brandon Agee, Jessica Agee, Lauren Agee, Jason Hartsel, Meredith Hartsel, and Barrett Agee; and greatgrandsons, John William Barnard III, Joshua Glenn Barnard, Hayden Haddock and Morgan Haddock. Raymond graduated from Jefferson High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed by Garst Brothers and Pet Dairy for a total of 43 years. He was third baseman for the Roanoke Scrappers softball team for many years. He led the league with a constant high batting average, propelling the team to several state championships. Raymond was a charter member of Westhampton Christian Church, and served as deacon and trustee, as well as on other committees. He was extremely devoted to his faith, and to his God-given family. He is also survived by sistersin-law and brothers-in-law, Doris and Foy Clark, Kathryn and O.D. Weddle, and Ralph LaPrade. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held noon on Friday, October 31, 2008, at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Avenue. The Rev. Jim Crockett will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2008.
