Alton Ferguson Obituary

Alton Dewey Ferguson, 75, of Roanoke County, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, October 28, 2008, after battling a long illness. He retired from the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant after serving for 22 years. He was also employed by Keller Poole's Union #76 and Moore Tire Company. Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Halloween Ferguson; his son, Wesley Ferguson; his grandson, Keith Ashbrook; and his brothers, Delbert, Byron, Marshall and C.D. Ferguson Jr. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Paula Ferguson; his son, Tony Ferguson; his daughter, JoAnn Ashbrook, both of Roanoke, his sisters, Shirley Reed and husband, Major, of Hardy, and Berneice Carter, of Roanoke; his brothers, Harold Ferguson and wife, Edith, Wallace Ferguson and wife, Judy, Walter Ferguson, Gary Ferguson and wife, Jackie, all of Roanoke, and Wayne Ferguson and wife, Anne, of Bedford; his sistersin-law, Marcheta and Mary Ferguson both of Roanoke; his daughter-in-law, Dawn Ferguson, of Rocky Mount; his grandchildren, Andrew, Crystal and Cody Ferguson, and Danny Ashbrook; his two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Katelyn Ashbrook; brothers-in-law, Reinhold, Peter, and Martin Zirbes, of West Germany; sisters-in-law, Marlene Schneemacher, Rosemarie Schmitt, and Alwine Zirbes, of West Germany, and Marianne Dieltz, of New Richmond Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2008, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, (Cotton Hill Road), with Elder Michael Shorter presiding. Interment in the Ferguson Family Cemetery, Roanoke County with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to his wife, Paula. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 30, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.

I remember coming to his and playing in the yard!! I remeber him smiling and laughing!! Over the years I have lost contact with many people but Danny and joanne and Tony And Paula will remain in my heart and in my prayers as they need all the support they can get right now!! Love you all!!
