Sherrill Brown Obituary

Sherrill (Wayne) Brown, 72, a resident of Lyman, S.C., passed away on October 24, 2008 in Greenville, at Greenville's Regency Hospital. His passing was due to complications from heart by-pass surgery in August. Wayne was born in Roanoke, Va., on April 26, 1936, was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert R. Brown Sr. and Margie G. Brown; sister, Erma F. Brown; and brothers, Elbert R. Brown Jr., Roy D. Brown, and Joseph V. Brown. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Darlene Brown, of Lyman, S.C.; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Betty Brown, of Austin, Texas; a daughter and son-in law, Susan and Steve Karney, of Austin, Texas; a brother, J.C. Brown, of Charlottesville, Va.; a granddaughter, Sabrina Brown, of Austin, Texas; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and three special nieces, Erma Brogan, Cheryl Thorne, and Tracy Wallower. Wayne retired in 1998 from Springs Industries as a computer analyst. He was a member of the East Gate Church of Christ in Roanoke, Va. He and his wife lived in Lynchburg and Waynesboro, Va., Rock Hill, S.C., and recently Lyman, S.C., for the past 15 years. His hobbies included playing golf, playing baseball in his younger years, watching sports, playing piano and working his garden. Sincere thanks for the many prayers, calls, and visits. A special thanks to Roger Rollins who was a dear friend and also his neighbors for helping the family during his hospital stay. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel, 1336 Park Avenue, Lynchburg. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service and a follow-up gathering is planned afterwards. WAYNE AND I spent spent many hours playing together in my front yard in east gate. roanoke virginia.i will never forget the first time he hit me with boxing gloves the first time i ever seen stars before dark.i joined the navy with his brother David and went thru boot camp with him.Wayne was a great person.may the good lord bless the family.
