Daniel,
I didn't know you as well as others, but i knew you well enough to call you a friend. Everytime I saw you, you put a smile on my face. It breaks my heart that you're not with us anymore, but you will be missed dearly. May you rest in peace and fly with the angels.

I just learned Monday November 10, 2008 of the news. My son, Gunnar Saunders rushed home from school to tell me. While I was out of town and not connected to the Lynchburg News my friend left behind the one who meant the world to him, Christian. Daniel was a wonderful person who never had an unkind word to say about his family. He always wanted me to think that they were perfect! His life was not absent of difficult times; however, he always persevered. His love for Christian is beyond words and superseded everything else in his life. Christian, your daddy loved you with everything he had!! You were the one who brought him pride and strength. My memories of Daniel will forever be cherished. If Christian EVER needs anything please find me, and I will make it happen!!!

WHAT YEARS WE HAD PASSED TO FAST. THERE'S THING I WISH I HAD SAID THAT DIDN'T GET SAID BECAUSE OUR TIME WAS CUT SHORT. I KNOW YOU ARE AT PEACE AND I WILL SEE YOU IN ANOTHER TIME AND PLACE. I TRULY LOVED YO LITTLE BROTHER. FROM #1 TO #8
LOVE FOREVER

To all Daniel's Family and friends... My greatest sympathy and love goes out to you. Daniel was my best friend here in Virginia and he will be missed but not forgotten.

To my dear friend Daniel,
You were here to greet me when I moved to Virginia,
My first time on the eastern coast - no family, no friends, just work.

You befriended me here instantly,
Your insatiable desire to unfold.
You wanted to know what each horizon did hold,

At times, reluctantly, you traveled with me,
Places to you, unknown and unseen.
You went with anxieties, fears, inhibitions,
but I taught you to experience life and it's riches.

Years passed fast, I left to travel, again as I must,
returned 3 weeks later to see you and catch up.
We talked just briefly, and made our plans.
You did not show, but I understand…

My friend you were called into God's loving hands.

We all miss you dearly and our hearts may now ache,
But I know in your new garden, awaits a golden rake.
You are his one, a gift to receive so great,
to tend the great beauty at his heavenly gate.

I miss you so much but I will let you go,
I know you would not want me to feel this low.
So I say what you would have with tears in my eyes,
The point of the journey, is not to arrive,

Anything can happen...

So once again my friend we will part,
and I will be with you in spirit and heart.
And you within me until God's loving care,
reunites us as friends again, somewhere.

Travel on my friend and may you always find love,
hope, peace, and the next best thing.

We always did when we hung out together.

I love you man...
Larry

To Daniel's loved ones:
Daniel was such a great man that I got to know well at Open Mic Night. There we shared great times together making music and talking about life, love, and learning. I never heard Daniel say a negative word and am honored to call him my friend. Daniel thanks for all the good times and kind words buddy. you have no idea how much you will be missed.

Dear Brother

I will so much miss your smiling face and sense of humor.
My heart is so heavy at this time.
I know God took you for a special reason,
But I just wasn’t ready to let you go.
The only thing that seems to help is knowing that some sweet day,
I’ll be with you again.

To the Foster Family:

My heart is saddened and heavy laden with the news about Daniel. I have had the pleasure of being Tommy’s friend for quite a few years. During this time I have also had the privilege of meeting most of the family, and may I say what a wonderful family you are.

I met Daniel through Tommy when Daniel first started Lynchburg College. I saw Daniel’s desire to learn and most importantly, his desire to care for others. I believe we all can learn something from his example.

May God provide you comfort and peace during this time. I know that we will see Daniel again and that he is being comforted in Heaven.
God Bless.

Love,
Jeff, Cheryl, Rebekah and James Burgess – Lynchburg, Va.

To my Beloved Brother Daniel

You never said "I'm leaving"
You never said goodbye
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knew why

The past few nights I've lied in bed crying myself to sleep
Many days of heartfelt sorrow now I know are sure to follow,
Your love and memories in my heart I’ll always keep
But in God’s plan I know I will see you again another tomorrow

A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried
If Love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died

In Life I loved you dearly
In death I love you still
In my heart you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill

It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn't go alone
For part of me went with you,
But in God’s plan I know I will see you again soon

I love and miss you immensely
Your Loving Brother David
