Charlie Bowman Obituary

Charlie David Bowman, son of Benjamin and Ida Elizabeth Plunkett Bowman, was born August 7, 1910. He passed away November 4, 2008, at his home near Wirtz, Franklin County, Va., at the age of 98 years, two months and 28 days. He was the last survivor of eight brothers and one sister as follows, Henry, Lewis, Harry, Joel, Morrie, Roy, John, Ezra, and Mary Wray. On December 24, 1931, he was united in marriage to Nettie Mae Jamison, of Salem, Va., who departed this life July 9, 1973. To this union were born six children, Odell K. (Joanna), Marcella (Paul) King, B. Calvin (Beverly), Berlin W. (Laquita), Marlin J (Connie), Dean A. (Martha); 30 grandchildren; 121 great-grandchildren; 33 greatgreat-grandchildren; brotherin-law, Virgil (Esther) Jamison; sister-in-law, Phebe (William) Bowman. On December 28, 1974, he married Maxine Flory, of Union City, Ind., who departed this life March 30, 2006. Funeral services will be conducted from Oak Hill Old German Baptist Brethren Church 10 a.m. Friday with the Home Brethren officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted and that memorial donations may be made to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, 390 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151. His family will be receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
