Nancy McCord Obituary

On Thursday, October 9, 2008, Nancy Bradford McCord, of Christiansburg, Va., lost her fight with brain cancer in Duderstadt, Germany. She was born in Atlanta, Ga., on November 27, 1942. She leaves behind a husband, daughter, two grandsons, a number of semi-adopted sons and daughters, and many friends. Jeremy Hopkins, a close friend and fellow "property rights" activist, provided a description of Nancy and her life that all who knew her can relate to:
"Nancy was a light to the world and she left an indelible mark. She not only touched and brightened the lives of those who knew her, but there are literally thousands of people whom Nancy helped even though they never knew her name. Nancy was one of the kindest, most caring, loving, and selfless people I ever met. She was one of the only people I ever knew who possessed these qualities while also possessing a tenacity, resolve, and willingness to fight for others that was unmatched. She was one-of-a-kind in every sense of the word. Nancy was a modern day patriot. She fought for the property rights of others with nothing to gain and nothing personally at stake. I often told her, "Nancy, if we had fifty Nancy McCords, we could change the world, not just Virginia." I meant that! She was that kind of person. She has left us, but she has left us all better than we were before we knew her. She left this world a better place. She was an amazing woman. She was a powerful ally in the fight for justice, a terrific friend, and an even better woman. I was blessed to have known Nancy. She enriched my life. I will miss her deeply."
Instead of a memorial service, the family will have a REMEMBRANCE on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at 1040 Red Leaf Court, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. People may drop by between 1 and 6 p.m. It will be a time for family and friends to share their memories of Nancy. Dress casual.
