Raymond Wood Obituary

SSG Raymond T. Wood (US Army, Ret.), 76, of Vinton, went to join his wife, Shirley Wood, in Heaven on Sunday, November 9, 2008. Raymond served his country proudly in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Whitey Wood; and a grandson-in-law, James Clevinger. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ginny and John Alls; granddaughter, Chasity Clevinger; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, John and Jessica Alls, Jacob and Ann Wood; great-grandchildren, Amber Durr, Kaitlin Clevinger, John Berkeley Alls; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Larry Whitmire; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Nerman Wood; sister-in-law, Bonnie Riddle; brother-in-law, Dean Ball. The family would like to express a special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for the care given to Raymond. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at Oakey's East Chapel with Mr. Allen Cogar officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with military honors by the United States Army. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those wishing to make a memorial donation, please consider the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825 Electric Rd., S.W., Suite A, Roanoke, Va. 24018. Arrangements by Oakey's East Chapel, Bonsack, 540-977-3909.
